Writing Advice That Works

Most writing advice is generic. This is the advice that actually works.

Show up daily. Talent is cheap. Consistency is rare. The daily practice is everything.

Lower the bar for the first draft. It can be terrible. That is its job. You fix it later.

Kill your darlings. If a sentence is beautiful but does not serve the piece, cut it.

Read like a writer. Notice how authors do what they do. Steal their techniques, not their words.

Finish things. Half finished drafts teach you nothing. The end is where you learn.

Get feedback. Your friends will be nice. Find readers who will be honest.

Keep going. The writers who succeed are the ones who do not quit.
